History of the Clippers

The Clippers arrived in Los Angeles the former San Diego Clippers and had little success early on.  In the 1984/85 season the team finished 31-51, 85/86 they finished 32-50 and 86/87 they ended at 12-70 and the 87/88 season ended at 17-65.

The 1988 season found the Clippers with the first pick in the draft and they chose,
Out of the University of Kansas, Danny Manning only to lose him 26 games into the season with a season ending knee injury.  The team would finish the season at just 21-61 but earned the rights to the 2nd overall pick in the 1989 draft.  They chose Danny Ferry, who spurned the team to play in Italy leaving the team to finish at 30-52.

It would not be until the 91/92 season under the tutelage of Coach Larry Brown that the Clippers ended their 13 year losing streak and finished the year at 45-37 and making the playoffs for the first time and losing to the Utah Jazz in 5 games.

Even though the Clippers have had players like Derek Smith, Michael Cage, Danny Manning, Ron Harper, Brian Williams, Loy Vought, Pooh Richardson, Rodney Rogers, Andre Miller, Quinton Richardson and Elton Brand, the team has never managed to get past the first round of the playoffs.

The Clippers have had 3 Hall of Famers on their rosters to include Coach Larry Brown (1991-1993), Bill Walton (1984/85) and Dominque Wilkins (1993/94).  They have not retired any jerseys and the only other Team Award is a Most Improved Player Award for Bobby Simmons in 2005.
