History of the Grizzlies.
The genesis of the Grizzlies was in Vancouver, BC in the 1995/96 season. After 5 seasons of mediocrity, the team moved to Memphis Tennessee. Once in Memphis, the Grizzlies drafted All Star Pau Gasol who posted 17.6 points per game in route to winning the Rookie of the Year in 2002. It would not be until the 2003/04 season that the Grizzlies would make it into the NBA Playoffs. Unfortunately, the Grizzlies had to face the defending NBA Champion Spurs in the first round and were promptly swept from the playoffs.
The 2005/06 season would prove a little better for the Grizz as they posted 45-37 record but were again swept from the playoffs, this time by the Phoenix Suns. The teams again made the playoffs in the 2006/07 season but were eliminated in the 1st round again swept in 4 games this time by the Dallas Mavericks.
The 2006/07 season was marred by the injury to All Star Pau Gasol who led his Spanish FIBI Team to the World Championships. After finishing the season 22-60 and managing to sell less then 13,000 tickets a game, General Manager Jerry West resigned from the front office opening the door for current GM Chris Wallace and new Head Coach Marc Iavaroni. Unfortunately, the team finished the 2007/08 campaign at 22-60 again.
In February 2008, the Grizzlies traded All Star Pau Gasol to the Los Angeles Lakers for Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, Aaron Mckie, the draft rights to Pau’s younger brother Marc Gasol and two future 1st round Draft Picks.
