History of the Bucks

Entering their 40th season in the NBA, the Bucks won their first (and only) championship trophy in the 1971 Playoffs.  Led by Lew Alcindor, the Bucks dominated as Alcindor won the scoring title and the MVP Award and swept the Baltimore Bullets 4 games to none.  The Bucks would continue to make it into the playoffs but only got back to the NBA Finals one more time in 1974 losing to the Boston Celtics in 7 games.

In the beginning of the 1974/75 season, Bucks Star Alcindor (now Kareem Abdul Jabbar) would be sidelined by a broken hand.  The Bucks would struggle out of the gate and got better when Jabbar returned but failed to make the playoffs for the first time in 5 years.  The Bucks then stunned the world of basketball as they traded Jabbar to the LA Lakers for 4 players (Elmore Smith, Bryan Winters, David Meyers and Junior Bridgeman).

The Bucks have had 8 Hall of Famers on their rosters:  Lew Alcindor/Kareem Abdul Jabbar (1969-1975), Nate Archibald (1983/84), Dave Cowens (1982/83), Adrian Dantley (1990/91), Alex English (1976-78), Bob Lanier (1979-1984), Moses Malone (1991-1993) and Oscar Robertson (1970-1974).

The team has retired 7 jerseys: #1 Oscar Robertson, #2 Junior Bridgeman, #4 Sidney Moncrieff, #14 Jon McGlocklin, #16 Bob Lanier, #32 Brian Winters and #33 Kareem Abdul Jabbar.

The team has made the playoffs 25 times in 40 years, have been Division Champions 13 times (1971, 72, 73, 74, 76, 1980, 81, 82, 83, 84, 85, 86 and 2001).  They team has made it to the Conference Finals 8 times (1970, 71, 72, 74, 1983, 84, 86 and 2001) going to the NBA Finals 2 times (1971 and 1974) and winning 1 NBA Championship (1971)

Team Awards include 2 Coach of the Year Awards (1983 & 1985 Don Nelson), 1 NBA Rookie of the Year (1970 Lew Alcindor), 2 Sixth Man of the Year Awards (1987 & 1990 Rickey Peirce), 2 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Awards (1983 & 1984 Sidney Moncrieff) and 3 NBA MVP Awards (1971 Lew Alcindor, 1972 & 1974 Kareem Abdul Jabbar)
