History of the Kings
Entering their 24th season in the NBA, the Kings began playing in the 10,000 plus seat Sacramento Sports Arena. You couldn’t find a ticket to those games as the Kings played to sold out crowds all season posting a 37-45 record and making it into the playoffs where they would be bounced by the Houston Rockets.
It would be 9 years before the Kings found themselves back in the playoffs only to again be bounced out in the first round, this time by the Seattle Supersonics. In 2002, the Kings finally got out of the 1st round and entered the 2nd round with the LA Lakers. The Kings took the Lakers to 7 hard fought games before succumbing to eventual champs. This would be the last time the Kings would get to Conference Finals.
Over the next 6 years, the Kings would make it to the playoffs 4 more times never getting past the 1st round.
The Kings have no Hall of Famers on their roster. They have retired 8 jerseys: #1 Tiny Archibald, #2 Mitch Richmond, #6 Sacramento Fans (6th Man), #11 Bob Davies, #12 Maurice Stokes, #14 Oscar Robertson, #27 Jack Twyman and #44 Sam lacey.
The Kings have won 1 team award, the 2003 NBA 6th Man of the Year for Bobby Jackson.
