History: Originally established in 1998, the first Music City Bowl was played at Vanderbilt Stadium but the following year was moved to the home of the Tennessee Titans, LP Field. Original Sponsors for the game, American General Life & Accident, were only in for one season. Bridgestone tires then picked up sponsorship which they held until 2007 when Gaylord Hotels took over. In 2010, Franklin American Mortgage took over sponsorship. The Music City Bowl has a history of upsets with the underdog having won six out of the nine times it has been played. Last year’s matchup, North Carolina against Tennessee, went into a thrilling double overtime with North Carolina outlasting Tennessee 30-27.
