“Naked Willie” Nelson On Tour
Famed Texas superstar Willie Nelson is back on the road in support of his newest release, “Naked Willie” and album of early 1966-1970 tunes without orchestration or backing vocals.
Nelson will be on a three month 49 city tour beginning July 12, 2009 at Summerfest in Milwaukee and wrapping up at the Paragon Casino in Marksville, LA.
Willie was born in Abbott, Texas and credits his grandparents for getting him started in music as they purchased mail-order music lessons for him and by the age of nine had his own band. After DJ’ing in South Texas for a while, Nelson joined the Air Force but was discharged after a very short stint due to back problems. Shortly thereafter he went to Baylor University for a year but and moved to Vancouver, Washington to begin his music career in earnest. He would sell the now classic Gospel song “Family Bible” for $50.00.
His big break came in 1973 when he signed with Atlantic Records and his third album for them, “Red Headed Stranger” released in 1975 was a success and carried Nelson to his first Number One hit. From then on, Nelson has been on one non-stop roller coaster ride of a career. He has had the IRS come down on him in 1990only to have his friends help him out, along with his album “The IRS Tapes: Who’ll Buy My Memories?”. All profits from the album went to pay off the IRS, which he did by 1993.
