ZZ Top began their European leg of their Summer Tour  May 26th in Prague and they will continue through Europe through to June 14th.  They then return to the States  June 21st for the kickoff show opening for Aerosmith in Bristow VA.

In July 2008, the band announced that they had signed Producer Rick Rubin to produce their new  album.  The disc has no release date as of this writing.

ZZ Top consist of Billy F. Gibbons, Joe “Dusty” Hill and Frank Beard and hold the distinction of having its original members 40 years into their careers.  Their first break came in 1970 when they signed with London Records, releasing ZZ Top’s First Album and the now classic Rio Grande Mud.  The band then hit the road for several years  and by the time their third album, Tres Hombres was released they had already opened shows for the likes of The Rolling Stones.  Tres Hombres was a million plus seller that spawned the classic hits “La Grange”, “Waiting for the Bus” and “Jesus Just Left Chicago.”  The band continued their heavy touring schedule.  By 1977, burned out from the touring and recording schedule, the Boys from Texas took two year unplanned break.  It was during this two-year break that Billy and Dusty had grown their beards.

Together again in 1979, the band played a number of live shows and released their first album, Deguello, under their new label, Warner Brothers which spawned another two classics, “Cheap Sunglasses” and “I Thank You.”  Throughout the 80’s the band kept up with pop culture and the ever changing music scene and adapted their own sound accordingly.  “El Loco”, released in 1981  was the 1st of  4 albums featuring the sound (El Loco, Eliminator, Afterburner and Recycler). In 1993 the band signed a 5-record deal with RCA Records and released “Antenna” in 1994 (which sold over a million copies), Rhythmeen (released in 1996)an XXX in 1999.

In 2003, ZZ Top fulfilled their contract with RCA, releasing Mescalero to little fanfare.  In 2006 the boys parted ways with their only manger, Bill Ham and by December was signed to Sanctuary Management.  They are currently working on their 15th studio album with no release date set as of yet.
