2011 Season Outlook: The Giants are a solid team that has no lack of talent. Boasting an All-pro quarterback, two of the top pass rushers in the league and some of the best young receivers in the game today coupled with a solid running game; fans will expect their team to contend for the NFC Title.
Recap: After not qualifying for the playoffs last season, Head Coach Tom Coughlin heading into the new season signed a number of players to help. Firstly they inked DB Courtney Brown, FB Jerome Johnson and K Sam Swank. In February they added former Cincinnati TE Carson Butler and then in March signed S Antrel Rolle. QB David Carr, the Giants backup, signed with the 49er’s so the team picked up former Indy QB Jim Sorgi who was Peyton Manning’s backup.
In the draft, the Giants selected DE Jason Pierre-Paul with the 15th overall selection. They increased their defensive depth with six out of seven picks on the defensive end. Former Arkansas OG Mitch Petrus is the only offensive pick (147th overall). The other defensive picks were DT Linval Joseph, S Chad Jones, LB Phillip Dillard, DE/LB Adrian Tracy and P Matt Dodge.
Look for your Giants to be much improved on the defensive end of the ball. When receiver Steve Smith worked out privately with Eli, this season Hakeem Nicks is working out with QB Eli Manning. OC Kevin Gilbride said "Catching as many balls from him and trying to use Eli as an extension of the coaching staff will certainly be beneficial to him."
