NFC Championship

The 2009 NFC Championship game pits the Philadelphia Eagles (9-6-1) against the resurgent Arizona Cardinals (9-7).  Donavan McNabb had a decent season throwing for 3,916 yards and 23 touchdowns and the running back tandem of Westbrook and Buckhalter over 4 yards per carry but it is the defense that will have to hold in order for the Eagles to advance.

The surprise team (to everyone outside the Cardinal locker room) of the season keeps on ticking.  Kurt Warner is playing like an MVP throwing for 4,583 yards and 30 touchdowns and receivers Fitzgerald and Boldin are catching everything thrown near them and Edgerrin James is giving just enough in the running game to keep defenses honest. Look for a knock down, all out fight for the championship.

In total contrast to the snowy, blustery conditions of the Pittsburgh/Baltimore game, the Arizona Cardinals/Philadelphia Eagles game was picture perfect…for the Cards.   The game, which Arizona had home field advantage for, took place Sunday Afternoon in front of 70,650 fans and was a raucous affair.    Arizona Quarterback Kurt Warner, playing like a 25 year old, used pinpoint precision to dominate the Eagles secondary as he racked up 279 yards and 4 TD’s on 21/28 passing.

Philadelphia QB Donovan McNabb (28/47 375 yards 1TD and 1 INT) thought his team had the game wrapped up as he hit DeSean Jackson in the end zone to take a 25-24 lead with 10:54 left in the game.

Warner then rallied the troops and led his team on a seven plus minute drive, completed 5-5 passes for 57 yards and a critical 4th down conversion as Rookie running back Tim Hightower took a fake screen pass from Warner into the end zone.  Warner then completed a 2 point conversion to TE Ben Patrick and sealed a 32-25 victory sending the Cardinals into a Super Bowl XLIII matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
