Seahawks History

The expansion Seattle Seahawks began their first season, (1976) with tragedy as Team Owner, Lloyd Nordstrom passed away from a heart attack on January 20.  The Seahawks would lose their first 5 games before posting a win over their fellow expansion team the Tampa Bay Buccaneer on the road and a few weeks later the Atlanta Falcons at home.  The team finished out the season 2-12.
The team would continue to post losing records until the 1983 season when they finished out the year at 9-7, making it into the playoffs for the first time.  The winning feelings would continue in the Wild Card Playoff game where they dispatched the Denver Broncos31-7.  The good feelings would end a week later as LA Raiders beat the Seahawks 30-14 for the AFC Championship.

It would not be until the 2005 season that he Seahawks would get win their Conference game as they posted a 13-3 record and faced the Washington Redskins in the Divisional Playoffs  They would beat the Redskins 20-10 and met up with the Carolina Panthers for the Conference Championship.  The Seahawks would upend the Panthers 34-14 for their first Super Bowl contest.

Super Bowl XL matched the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Seattle Seahawks.  This game was huge for Steelers RB Jerome Bettis, who was closing out his career at home (The game was played at the Pontiac Silverdome in Detroit) in one of the biggest games of his career. The game was a tight and as the first half came to an end, the score was 7-3.  At the beginning of the 2nd half, the Steelers extended their lead on a 75 yard touchdown run by RB Willie Parker giving the Steelers a 14-3 lead.  Seattle would get closer with an interception of Ben Roethlisberger by Kelly Herndon for a touchdown bringing the score to 14-10.  After a flurry of penalties, the Steelers took advantage of Seattle’s momentary confusion and scored on a WR pass to HB Hines Ward for the final score of the game, 21-10.

The Seahawks have made the playoffs 10 times in 33 seasons and have won their division 6 times (1988, 1999, 2004, 05, 06, 07).  They have won their conference 2 times (1983 and 2005).  They have won the AFC/NFC Championship 2 times (1983 and 2005).  They have not won a Super Bowl.
