The opera Giuseppe Verdi wrote in the 1800’s was based on 14th Century Spain. The newest incarnation of the opera takes place during the 19th century and while Spain was in the troughs of their Spanish Civil War.
The newest incarnation stars Sondra Radvagovsky as Leonora, Dolora Zajick as the Gypsy Azucena and Dmitri Hvorostovsky as Count di Luna.
