Synopsis: Like its bloodthirsty botanical star, the parodic Little Shop of Horrors started out small in 1982, then grew and grew 'til it could make good on the megalomaniacal plant's promise to take over the planet. Or at least that portion of it known as Broadway. The much-loved Howard Ashman-Alan Menken musical spoof of a cheesy 1960 Roger Corman horror flick has worked its carnivorous charms everywhere -- Off-Broadway for more than 2,200 performances, in regional and community theaters, in colleges and high schools -- but never on Broadway. It will wind up there this summer, opening at the Virginia Theatre Aug. 14. Directed by Connie Grappo (who worked on the original with Ashman) and choreographed with artful period parody by Kathleen Marshall (Rob's relative).
