RECAP: The San Antonio Spurs are the team in the NBA that nobody can count out. Year after year, the Spurs put a product on the floor that has garnered 13 straight playoff appearances and four NBA Titles. The franchise looks at the upcoming 2010/11 season no differently and the team has indeed restocked and re-strengthened its backcourt as it continues to grow younger. Gone from the team are guards Roger Mason Jr. and Keith Bogans as well as center Ian Mahinmi. Joining the team this season are F/C Tiago Splitter, the Spurs 2007 draft selection and free agent guard Gary Neal who averaged 16.0 ppg in the Spurs Summer League.
Much beleaguered forward Richard Jefferson, who opted out of the final year of his contract with the Spurs, has resigned a 4-year deal keeping him in silver and black through the 2013/14 season. The team also resigned F Matt Bonner to a 4-year deal. In the draft, the Spurs also scored high with the selection of Oklahoma State guard James Anderson. Anderson, the 20th overall draft selection, was left out of the Summer League lineup due to a minor hamstring strain. The team feels he has great shooting range and the ability to get to the rim and or free throw line. The team also selected English center Ryan Richards with the 49th overall selection who they hope will develop into great PF/C to replace Duncan down the line.
Look for the Spurs to again get into the playoffs and for the team to be viable competition throughout the season.
