Recap: The defending American League and World Series Champions are looking to repeat and as the season has progressed, it is looking more and more like that is a distinct possibility. The team has been on a terror and shredding the American League. In early June, pitcher Andy Pettitte won his 200th game as a Yankee and is only the 3rd player in team history to do so. Brett Gardner set a record of his own, becoming the first player in MLB History to hit a grand-slam and an inside-the-park home run during back to back games in early July.
Over the All Star Weekend, longtime PA Announcer Bob Sheppard died at the age of 99 and just two days later, Yankee Legend and Owner George Steinbrenner passed away at the age of 80. A special ceremony was held during the All Star Ceremonies.
