Recap: The Oakland A’s are going to have to do better than play .500 ball if they expect to come out on top in the AL West. They can look to starting pitcher Dallas Braden who pitched only the 19th perfect game against a top team in the Tampa Bay Rays.
But the team can’t help the injuries (or can they?). Already, OF Ryan Sweeney is out for the rest of the season while LF Conor Jackson is looking to get to rehab by late July or early August. DH Eric Chavez is sidelined with bulging neck disks and most likely won’t be back before September. LHP Josh Outman and RHP Justin Duchscherer are both on the 60-day DL list and Duchscherer’s career may be over after season ending surgery on his left hip. RHP John Meloan is out for the season.
